Hey Friends,

How are you today? Hope all is well. It’s raining outside and really hot inside. I’m so hot I feel like I want to pass out. That’s just me, I get really hot, really fast. It’s just a mere 74°F. Believe me, it’s been hotter where I am this summer. How’s the weather been treating you?

It’s funny how the things we took for granted and didn’t like very much as children, with a bit of wisdom and commonsense we learn to appreciate them as adults. For instance, as a kid, rain meant we couldn’t go outside to play. We sang songs asking the rain to go away. Now as a second year gardener. I pray for the rain and sing songs of joy when the rain falls. The rain means so much more to me now.

And what about bees. I used to run from bees, I just thought they were these evil stinging creatures, that’ll sting you for no reason at all and make you swell up like a big pink balloon (didn’t know that is just an allergic reaction). Didn’t know they only sting in self-defense.

Mind you, bees still can get on your nerves sometimes, buzzing around you like you are a beautiful flower or something sweet. Last Sunday, they chased me inside, as I was at my Mother-in-Law’s house and trying to eat outside, because it was so hot inside. They hoovered around my food and more and more kept coming. So reluctantly I had to eat inside the house.

But when they are in my garden, pollinating my flowers. Again my soul sings. Did you know that bees are essential to pumpkin pollination. Oh, it’s alot of gardening talk, but a bee has to transfer pollen from the male flower to the female flower and he only has a short window to do it. If this is not done during that window, the fruit dies and there is no pumpkin growth.

Every morning I examine the growth in my garden around my home. Every morning there are bees in my garden, traveling from flower to flower. I did some research, and learned that some pumpkin growers pollinate the female flower with the male flower themselves. Instead of trusting the bees to pollinate the female flower during that small window.

I wondered if we needed to do that too and prayed about it. Then one morning we got our answer. We were heading out for a big road trip to another State and the female flower was opened big and beautiful as we were getting ready to go. We saw bees moving from the male flower to the female flower and we knew it couldn’t get any better than that. God’s got us covered.

We realized the evening before that this flower was soon going to open and we suspected it was going to be opened by morning. We wondered what should we do and I said to my husband, “In that case honey, let’s just leave it to the bees” and we did.

Thank the Lord for rain and bees and for being an awesome creator of such wonderful things.

Thank God for you and thanks for reading.
