“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.” Rosalynn Carter
Yesterday morning I watched the final presidential debate prior to Election Day on November 4th. So what are my thoughts? Well, I’m glad you ask.
I think Senator John McCain did very well and he had an awesome one-liner that probably will go down in the history books; along with “Say it aint so Joe!” from Governor Palin; took him long enough; “ Senator Obama, I’m not President Bush, if you want to run against President Bush, you should have four years ago.” He shoots, he scores, and his opponent does not react. Two points to the McCain team.
Then later; I hear on the news a quote from Obama saying “In three debates and over 20 months, John McCain hasn’t explained a single thing that he would do differently to George Bush when it comes to the most important economic issues we face today.” This is a statement I agree with from hearing it for myself. Sure, Senator John McCain made a list of things that needed to be reformed but not much mention of what he would change and what his plans are.
I think instead of using this opportunity to speak on the issues needed to be discussed and outlining his strategy in making things better if he was elected into office; he attempted to distract us by directly appealing to the “Joe the Plumbers” out there who are worried about their taxes being raised because they earn over $250,000.
If you asked me; Joe, is just being selfish. It is my personal belief that with great power come responsibility; yeah, you know where that quote is from; so if you can afford to give, then give. Don’t be greedy; when you invest in others, you invest in the world; our world; that we live in together. Sacrifices have to be made; in order to make it better. Joe thinks paying more taxes is a punishment and Joe is concerned about taking care of his wife and kids. I don’t think it’s a punishment; I think it’s an investment; in America; in the world; in the future. To take this place where we need it to be; sacrifices have to be made.
Never the less; I think making it personal and using “Joe the Plumber” to appeal to that demographic was an excellent strategy on John McCain’s part and it was food for thought. However; it’s my opinion; that the whole Obama associating with terrorist accusations are grasping at straws and I feel only the less educated would fall for that one.
Enough already!!! I understand though; Senator John McCain is not going out without a fight nor should he.
McCain was feisty in this last debate and despite the fact that he still doesn’t sound like a man with a plan to me but more like someone who will try to play the same card game; with the same deck of cards; only better (in reference to following Bush’s administration). So if you like the game being played right now and only wish to change the player; then he is definitely your man.
If you want change; in fact desperate for it; then you know what to do; but one way or the next, it’s gonna hurt and you are going to feel it. To accomplish something great; it’s going to take courage, confidence, hope, faith, spirit, common-sense and sacrifice.
So you decide the kind of person you want to lead you there.
