Hallmark Christmas Movie Review 2012 – “Matchmaker Santa”

“Matchmaker Santa” – Hallmark

Starring- Lacey Chabert, Florence Henderson, John Ratzenberger, Adam Mayfield

Premiered Date- November 17th, 2012

This movie is about a little girl who makes a wish to Santa and Santa works to make it come true many years later as she is an adult.

When Melanie was a little girl she watched how her parents loved each other. One night upon hearing her mother call her father “her prince charming,” Melanie asks Santa to one day have her very own Prince charming.

Not thinking much of that letter, Melanie grows up to run her own bakery and is dating Justin, a handsome, young CEO.  Throughout the beginning part of the film, you see Justin’s loyal best friend and assistant Dean, spend more time with Melanie than Justin, filling in when he is late or can not make it.

When Justin invites Melanie to spend the holidays at his family Cabin and meet his mother, Melanie is excited. She thinks that it will be an intimate weekend between the two of them, when Justin is really planning a christmas party to woo business associates.

She meets a friendly old man on the plane who looks like Santa and is on his way to play Santa Claus in a neighboring town to where Melanie is going. Little does she know, he is the real Santa Claus who has come to make her wish come true. The friendly old man offers her some good advice on love.

When Melanie arrives at the airport she finds herself once again, picked up by Dean because Justin had an important business meeting.

Then on their way to the cabin, they pick up a hitchhiker, who is the friendly old man from the plane. Things start to go haywire, when Santa orchestrates a series of events that brings Dean and Melanie closer together, as well as Justin and an old flame.

This movie is a very charming Christmas movie but I thought the ending was a bit too abrupt and unromantic. It was as though they ran out of time to finish the story, so they gave it a swift ending. I didn’t like that so much, but other than that, it is a very nice movie.
