How many of you are in to the much underrated syndicated fantasy series Legend of the Seeker? My husband and I are big fans.
I often like Epic movies like Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia; and as a pre-teen/teen I very much liked Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. As well as Jack of all Trades, starring actor Bruce Campbell, who also portrayed the “The King of Thieves” in a recurring role in the Hercules and Xena franchise.
Once in a while you’d see a face you recognize in Legend of the Seeker from those Xena-Hercules days. Like Ted Raimi who held a recurring role as Joxer between the two series, could be seen as Sabastian the troublemaking map-maker in Season One (Episode Three-Bounty) and Season Two (Episode Twelve -Hunger).
Also seen in Episode Thirteen, Season One was Michael Hurst, best known for his role as Lolaus, Hercules’ best friend and traveling companion.
The major characters of this epic series are Zeddicus Z’ul Zorander, Kahlan Amnell, Richard Cypher, Darken Rahl and recently added to the ensemble Cara.
Season Two follows the heroic quest of Zedd, Wizard of the First Order and very tall, skinny old man; the attractive and honorable Mother Confessor Kahlan; Cara, the incredibly gorgeous ( left for dead by her subordinates) former leader of the feared Mord’Sith and Richard Cypher, the Seeker who holds their loyalty and devotion.
A powerful magic collided when Richard defeated and killed Darken Rahl. This tore a rift in the veil between the underworld; ruled by The Keeper and apparently now managed by its new patron Darken Rahl; and the world of the living. Richard and his crew have to fight the creatures and minions of the underworld; the undead called Banelings. These creatures have accepted The Keeper’s offer for another chance to live, at a cost; they have to kill for each day of life; if they fail to kill they will be returned to the underworld. Richard’s new quest is to find the Stone of Tears; an ancient object which legend has it; will heal the rift and once again protect the world of the living. Sounds interesting, right? It really is a cool series and I do hope it gets a chance at a season three, four, five, six and many more; as long as it keeps evolving and remains interesting.
This show also has a very sexy cast, but none in my opinion as gorgeous as Cara. When this series first introduce the Mord’Sith and Denna (Mord’Sith chosen to trained The Seeker to bow down and serve Darken Rahl), I thought to myself, wow, she is gorgeous; but then came Cara.
Thanks for helping to spread the word about this series. Those of us in the fandom have our fingers crossed hoping that ABC Studios will renew it for a third season.
No Prob. Long overdue. I can’t fathom for the life of me why this show is not marketed better. It’s like if they want to get cancel or something. What time does it show where you are? It shows at 11:45 p.m on Saturdays and Sundays where I live, I have to tivo it and watch it the next day. When it first premiered, I had no clue what channel or what time, I just happened to be flicking through the channels and saw it was just starting, there began my Legend of the Seeker journey. I am sure this show would have a bigger fanbase if it wasn’t so secretly hidden away, only to be discovered accidentally. What do you think?
The nature of syndication means that a lot of the promotional responsibility ends up with the local stations so that’s why we don’t hear a lot about it in the main stream press. If we want to spin that in a good way it also means it costs less to produce the show for the studio so that might help at renewal time.
In my market (Boston) it airs on Saturday night at 11:35pm so I understand your frustration. :)
Opps, did I say 11:45, I mean 11:35 p.m. I’m in Boston too. Well, I will look at it the good way then. I do hope they renew it for a third season. It really is good writing and an awesome cast. Last week’s episode was scary for a second; thought we were going to lose Cara; but I thought these writers aren’t that crazy. What do you think of her addition to the cast? She really does give Kahlan a run for her money, doesn’t she?
We’ve talked quite a bit on the podcast about how season 2 has really “raised the stakes” in many areas including the dynamics between the lead characters now that Cara is in the mix. It’s been great to watch things play out.
I agree. Making her a perminant addition to the group was a smart move. I really love her platonic loyalty to Richard. I like that they gave us a glimpse of how she became a Mord’Sith and the kind of person she was before they broke her in Episode three. I also thought it was sweet when she was drinking the shadow water out of Richard’s hand, in hopes to save her life. That was kind of sexy and sweet in a non-romantic sort of way. That episode really strengthen the group’s bond to me. Really though, they couldn’t have chosen a better cast for this show. They really do have a great dynamic between them .
Please feel free to listen to our weekly podcasts and send us your thoughts via email or voicemail so we can share them on the show. :)
Awesome. Will do!
